coaching & instruction
We understand that every person who rides a mountain bike has a unique riding style and ability. You may be confident dropping off 20ft cliffs – you may not be confident rolling down a 2ft step. With the help of our instructors and the genius of Whistler’s naturally progressing trail technicality your riding will progress – guaranteed.
technique assessment & clinics
The first morning of your holiday we'll take you down to a local valley trail for a basic skills assessment. We usually pick a short intermediate trail and ride it together with a lead and tail guide. This gives us a good indication of overall riding abilities, grouping and some guidance as to trail selection for the coming week.
Throughout the duration of your stay our instructors run beginner – intermediate skills clinics. If there’s a specific area of your riding that you’d like to give more attention to you can also book 1 – 1 sessions with some of our more experienced team. All of our guides and instructors are CMIC, SMBLA or NCCP trained.
Examples of some of these clinics include:
- Cornering (high and low speed)
- Technical Climbing
- Switchback Techniques
- Basic wheel lifts
- Bike Body Separation
- Drop Offs
You will also find that we give advice on line choice and general technique tips during all of our guided rides. It works both ways however – please feel free to advise us on our own riding whenever you feel it appropriate.

cmic instruction
Mountain biking is a fast-growing sport, and as more people take to the trails, there is an increasing need for experienced riders to assume leadership. Canadian Mountain bike Instructor Certification CMIC was established in December 2001 to provide a wide spectrum of training for ride leaders, guides and instructors.
Some of our lead guides have trained as CMIC level 1 instructors with experience in the following:
- Leadership, Accident Scenarios and Emergency Action Planning
- Guiding skills for leading beginner, intermediate and advanced tours
- Giving a tour Safety talk and taking riders through the Pre-tour Skill session
- Using Direct Instruction techniques to teach beginner and intermediate skills
- Working with skill analysis: breaking a skill into phases, identifying bike-body movements for each phase and an introduction to the biomechanics of skills
